Five Simple Maintenance Checks for Electric Bikes
Regular maintenance helps keep any bicycle predictable and comfortable. For electric bicycles, electrical components and batteries add a few extra checks to the usual routine.
1. Check tires and wheels
Confirm tire pressure within the approved range and inspect tread, sidewalls and rims for visible damage. Make sure the wheels turn freely and the axle or quick-release is secure.
2. Test both brakes
Check the braking response before each ride. If the lever feels different, braking performance drops or the brakes rub abnormally, have the system inspected.
3. Examine the battery and charger
Look for damaged connectors, frayed cables or unusual battery swelling. Follow the manufacturer's charging and storage guidance. Do not charge a battery that appears damaged.
4. Inspect folding joints
If your bicycle folds, check the latches and hinges each time it is unfolded. The locking mechanism should engage fully, without unusual play or binding.
5. Review drivetrain and controls
Inspect chain condition, pedals, shifting, handlebars, displays and lights. Clean and lubricate components according to the manufacturer's instructions.
If you notice a new noise, handling issue or electrical fault, stop riding and ask a qualified technician to inspect the bicycle. Explore the FoldX Electric Bikes collection to learn about our upcoming concepts.
